Social Experiment: Listen and Ask Questions

I’m having dinner with some friends tonight at one of their homes. I’m going to do an experiment.

Most people know of the line “waiting to respond instead of listening”. This refers to instances where people are having a conversation, but most people are just jumping at every chance to say something not actually listening and inquiring about what the others are saying.

So tonight I will try to listen to everything a person says and see if I can manage to consistently reply with a question about what they just said or added to the conversation. I’m not sure if it will work or that I can do it every time, but I’ll make a deliberate effort to do it.

I may follow-up tomorrow’s blog with the results and findings of this little social experiment.
